A teenage youth was found dead just days after being falsely accused of stealing the cremated remains of a dead baby during a break-in, an inquest has learned.

Tragic Discovery

Kai Lloyd's parents found his body in his room at his Connah's Quay residence on 19 November 2021.

False Allegations Begin

The inquest learned how his mother got a communication on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a woman inquiring if Kai was her offspring. The communication stated: "Inform him appreciation for burgling my apartment."

In a testimony presented to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the news, asserting her baby's ashes had been stolen in a burglary - a claim which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An official inquiry from authorities later concluded the supposed break-in victim had "lied to police" and "it now appears that the property was never taken in the first place".

Media reports about the supposed taken remains generated social media responses, and although the teenager was not identified in the messages, his parent said individuals "knew it was him".

The "online posts were extremely upsetting", she stated.

Emotional Health Impact

She added that Kai had been diagnosed with mild attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that condition, other individuals' views genuinely were important to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she commented, "particularly when this was not true".

The teenager was arrested at his residence, but no evidence was found. He was transported to a police station and later freed pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in contact, the inquest learned, but had not contacted the family by the moment of his death.

Isolation and Anxiety

His mother said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "a minute could feel like much longer".

When she spoke to him about the alleged incident, she said her son informed her he had gone into the residence because the woman who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet anytime he needed, but denied taking anything.

Digital Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being bullied digitally after the accusations.

The proceedings learned that a 19-year-old encouraged Kai to end his life.

She had no concerns on the night before he passed away, explaining how she had listened to him "chuckling and joking".

She described him as a "compassionate, loving" boy, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".

He had been "clearly concealing his worries", she stated, noting that he could not stand to have anyone "think bad of him".

Educational Response

The inquest received testimony from school staff at the local secondary school.

On 8 November, she "overheard some students discussing that Kai had been arrested and that was the first I learned".

"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she added.

After the conversation, the staff member said she called the family's family telephone and provided a voicemail saying she had spoken to the student about the allegations.

The court heard his family said they did not receive that message.

Formal Finding

Lead coroner informed the hearing he would wait for documents regarding what improvements had been made to handling suspects with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a prevention of future deaths report.

Delivering a narrative conclusion, he stated: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsupported allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young child.

"Probably untruths were afterwards embellished and amplified through the platform of online networks.

"During 11 November, he was interviewed by the police and following his questioning he was released whilst investigations continued."

The coroner determined: "There is no proof that the acts or omissions of any agency led to or added to his death and although it was the result of a self-inflicted act it is not possible to determine his purpose."
