Air travel have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport following a major air traffic control outage brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped because of an systems problem that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Several flyers found themselves stranded in aircraft on the tarmac while the issue persisted.

Services Recommence with Residual Impact

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

That said, considerable delays are anticipated to affect schedules. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with a host of additional flights facing hold-ups.

An airport representative had earlier anticipated that a significant number of movements could be impacted.

"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," was the consistent advice.

Source of the Issue

The problem was traced to the operational halt to an IT issue with its ATC service provider.

Flyers should still plan to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport as knock-on effects are worked through.
