Arise, Sir David: Beckham Knighted by the Monarch at Windsor Castle Investiture
David Beckham received a honorary title at Windsor Castle on Tuesday. The ex-national team leader, fifty, was among those accepting honours for his contributions to athletics and philanthropy. Earlier this year, he expressed he was “immensely proud” of being acknowledged in the monarch's annual honors list.
Soccer Achievements
The player first appeared in England's top division for Manchester United in the mid-nineties and was a key member that secured a thrilling Champions League final victory in the late nineties when they defeated the German giants with last-minute strikes.
Overall, he scored 85 goals and garnered accolades including six Premier League titles and two FA Cups as a footballer, before ending his playing career in 2013. In addition to his sports endeavors, he has supported a variety of philanthropic initiatives, including acting as a charitable representative for global aid group the United Nations Children's Fund since 2005.
The celebrated athlete, accompanied by his spouse, after receiving his knighthood at an investiture ceremony at the royal venue.
Charitable and Other Roles
Last year, the sports star, who has described himself as a “huge royalist”, was appointed an official representative for the King’s Foundation, an non-profit organization founded by the monarch in 1990. In the late nineties he was named most stylish man of the year by a leading publication and he has modelled for companies such as H&M, the Italian designer, and the luxury label.
Beckham married his wife Victoria in the turn of the millennium and the couple have a family of four kids together – their eldest, Romeo, the third child, and Harper.
